How to find your weight loss motivation?
Weight loss motivation

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” I didn’t say that. Zig Zaglar, an American author and motivational speaker, did.

Hi Gracious Gang!

I hope you all are doing great!

For all those who are struggling to find weight loss motivation, this article is a must read.

Motivating yourself is a continuous process. It’s a vicious circle. Today you are motivated to pursue an action for one motive and tomorrow your idea about it will change.

Every action we take in our life has a certain motive behind it. And this is what drives us to achieve our goals.

Losing weight and heading towards fitness is no exception. You must have certain motivation to lose weight. And this motivation can be categorised into Extrinsic and Intrinsic factors.

Extrinsic motivational factors are those which are outside your scope and drive you to move in a particular direction based on external parameters. Whereas, intrinsic motivation originates from within yourself to accomplish a goal.

For example – you went to a party and someone commented on your dress, about how it did not fit you. You felt embarrassed and decided to shed a few kilos. This is extrinsic motivation. But suppose you have a stage fright and it seems to you that if you lose weight your confidence will eventually increase; then it’s an intrinsic motivational factor. So all you need is weight loss motivation.

In order to chase your goals you need to be motivated to lose weight.

How to stay motivated to lose weight?

Now, the question is how to find that weight loss motivation and how to sustain it over a period of time.

Here are 7 points that will keep you on a go:

1. Find out the “Why

What is it that you want to lose weight for? Why have you taken this Fitness journey? What is your purpose? As we discussed earlier, these can be either extrinsic or intrinsic factors. Find out what you want to lose weight for.

If you want to get fit for yourself, driven by factors like self-confidence, personality development, nothing like it.

2. SMART Goals

Set SMART Goals for losing weight.
Set SMART Goals for weight loss motivation

Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. Do not set vague goals.

For example, “I want to look like my favourite actress” is a vague goal instead define how are you planning to work on losing those body dimensions.

Your goals should be like, I will exercise 5 days a week for at least 45 min each of these days or something like I will give up on junk food and try to lose 2 inches from my waist.

3. Track your Goals

Your goals will serve no purpose until you track them. Take note of your goals and measure them periodically. I measure my goals every 15 days.

You can make it weekly or monthly. It gives you an idea about how far have you come and what improvements you need to make for days and months to come.

Believe me, this really is motivating.

4. Reward yourself

Whenever you complete a goal, you must treat yourself. You can go for a spa or a facial or for a movie or whatever you like.

This keeps your zeal alive and you will not lose your weight loss motivation.

Try to workout at home

“I don’t want to go to gym. Leaving home at 8 AM for work and coming back at 8 PM is already too much. I want to lose weight but don’t have time for gym sessions. ” – as soon as I heard someone saying this while crossing the road, I remember how similar it sounded to my story and how I decided to lose weight at home. I am no way near to the goals but my boat has sailed to reach my destination.

Hi Gracious Gang,

But, we just don’t have 2 hours to spend in a gym, DAILY ! Some of us are too busy in our professional lives, some are homemaker, some have children and some have other issues.

So the question is What should we do? How should we lose weight? And the answer is, why not try to lose weight at home! Yes, it is very much possible. We can shed our extra kilos at home. Let’s see how :

We often have house help for daily tasks and then we gain weight and join gym or other activities to lose weight. This way we spend a lot more. So why not try to lose weight at home while doing regular home tasks and save on the money too!

You can burn those extra calories at home within your comfort zone. This is great aspect to start with. Laundry, mopping, vacuuming etc all the household tasks helps you burn some calories which may not be as good as gym circuits but atleast it helps you get somewhere.

Eating Everything in Controlled Portion, is not just a Pre-Conceived Notion!

Indian meal to keep you full

As  per  India’s leading nutrition and exercise science expert, Rujuta Diwekar, you must eat foods which are locally available. Native foods are the best.

According to my own experience eating our Indian traditional food in controlled portion does not lead to weight gain. Instead it keeps you full for a longer time and prevents you from snacking. Snacking is actually your biggest enemy when you try to lose weight. Even if you want to snack, opt for fox nut, almonds, walnuts etc.

You must always stick to a heavy breakfast, heavy lunch and lighter dinner. Eat home-cooked vegetables, lentils (dal), rice and chappati. Keep it all native and you won’t even feel the need to eat junk food.

Water…Water Everytime, Lets you Glow and Shine!

I advocate about drinking water all the time. Right from the time I wake up till the time I am  awake, water is always there at my rescue. You must drink warm water with honey/lemon as the first in the morning.

I generally store 1 litre warm water in a kettle and drink it in portions every half hour or one hour. Warm water activates metabolism, it helps to get rid of  ‘Water-weight’, keeps your digestive system controlled and relieves you from constipation. Apart from this it also relieves nasal congestion and keeps you hydrated.

If not warm water, try drinking water at room temperature. Make sure you drink about 100-150 ml water 30 minutes each before and after your main meals.

Exercise at Home, No Need to Roam!

Workout at home to reduce extra kilos

Who says you cannot workout at home? You just need a little space to begin with. Start with normal jumps, jumping jacks and skipping rope. Do as many as you can initially and then as and when you gain strength and endurance, increase the count.

I remember when I was in Grade 10, I used to wake up at 5:30 AM, head to my terrace and skipped rope for about 30 minutes.

Some people advocate on walking to reducing weight but honestly, I feel walking is just to keep us active. It is not an exercise. However, if your body is not well adapted to jumping at the moment, you can always walk. The idea here is to ATLEAST START! And gradually when you gain momentum, you can jump and run.

Also, once you get a hang of it, you can invest a little in a mat and 2 pairs of dumbbell (one lighter and other heavier). There are a lot of workouts available with only these equipments. You can try them and it definitely helps in reducing weight while you are at home.

So these are some golden rules to follow if you aim to lose weight at home. The results may not be as quick as you may get by going to gym or playing a sport but definitely gets you started. You will be motivated to go ahead and try more ways to reduce weight.

Certain tips to help you:

  • Cut down your sugar intake: 1 tablespoon sugar is more than enough in a day. Also fruits have natural sugar. So don’t add to much sugar in your diet
  • Don’t snack much: While we snack we actually eat a lot of packaged junk food which actually will reverse all our efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle. If you feel hungry grab some almond, or other seeds  and enjoy it.
  • Don’t skip breakfast: Many studies, time and again, have proved that breakfast keeps you full and helps you to lose weight. Skipping breakfast should not be an option under any circumstances.

Always remember consistency is the key. You will have to religiously follow these to reduce weight at home or at gym for that matter but it demands your 100% efforts. Stay motivated, read books about fitness and reducing weight and make these points a lifestyle change.

It is always said that it takes 21 days to build a habit and 90 days to make a lifestyle. You need to make these small changes in your lifestyle and it will have a mammoth impact on your way of living.

Find out the ways of motivating yourself to lose weight and sustain it.

How to Improve skin quality – Things I do !!

Hi Gracious Gang,

I hope you all are having an amazing day!

By now, you all must know that I live in Delhi and people who live in megacities are generally alienated from the natural environment that mother Earth has bestowed upon us. This leads to many health issues. And this topic has been raised by many people time and again. It is not largely the absence of nature that makes us sick but it’s actually how we go against the norms of nature. For example, merely sitting at home or in a concrete building is not something that is inversely affecting my health, but sitting in a closed glass chamber, a centrally air-conditioned room almost for a full day is something that is degrading my health from within.

Apart from the health issues we face, there are certain skin problems that bother us. This may be acne breakout, pigmentation, dehydrated skin, etc and all these make our skin looks dull and pale. Who doesn’t want glowing skin?? So today, I thought of sharing with you some of the things I do to keep my skin hydrated and to some extent, restore the damage that has been done. These are some of the things that I do. Every person’s skin behaves differently with different products so if you want to follow these, please do a patch test wherever you possibly can.

We all know the importance of water in our lives and honestly, there is no need to explain it. So I will tell you a different version of this story of drinking water. Every morning, I drink around 400-500 ML of warm water with a tablespoon of honey. Apart from boosting your energy, improving the digestive system and helping in weight loss, it actually makes your skin looks clearer. It has antibacterial properties and when mixed with lemon juice, the mixture purifies the blood. For some reason, I just like taking just honey water, you can add half a lemon juice to it.

I also apply honey and lemon mixture on my skin for that glow. Honey moisturizes the skin and lemon is rich in Vitamin C, so it treats pigmentation and darkness of the skin.

Both the intake and application of coconut oil is a boon to mankind. My skin actually gets very dry during winters and as a part of the night routine, I apply the required amount of coconut oil on my face. Your skin will soak in the oil after some time and it will be moisturized from within, giving you the dewy skin and highlighter-like effect eventually. Trust me, this is the best solution I have found out for winters and my skin is so accustomed to it by now.

Coconut oil I use

Just like lemon, orange is rich in Vitamin C and the orange peel has a higher concentration of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients than the orange itself. It lightens the pigmentation, unclogs skin pores, removes scars, treats acne and gives your skin a glowy and healthy look. To make the powder of orange peel, you just have to dry the orange skin under the sun for 2-3 days, grind it and make it into powder form. You can store this in a glass container for good 4-6 months. To make a face pack, you can mix 1 tablespoon of this powder in the required amount of milk and add a pinch of turmeric, apply for 15 minutes or till the time you can bear the tingling sensation and then wash away. You can do this 3 times a week. Again very effective on the skin.

Orange peel powder and face pack

A very popular method in India to remove all the tanning. All I do is, mix 1 tablespoon of Besan or Gram flour in milk and add a pinch of turmeric and half a lemon juice. The pack should be of medium consistency. Apply it on your face, leave it for 15-20 minutes and then gently scrub and remove it from your face. You can repeat it for about 2-3 times a week.

I have found out about my summer night care routine. Grate the cucumber and extract all the water from it. Now transfer it into the ice trays and let it be in the freezer for a few hours. Now, before going to bed, take a cube and apply it on your face. It will help ease redness on your face, makes your skin look smooth, helps to improve the blood circulation and prevents wrinkles. Nothing better than this during summers.

6. WATER !!

I don’t think that I need to explain the importance of drinking water for the skin. Just keep yourself hydrated, drink as much water as you can and you will see the results. Please ignore my not-at-all edited grumpy pic you see below.

Focus on just the water 🙂

This is it for this post guys. You see how these simple cost-effective methods can actually help you in improving your skin quality. Do try some of these.

Top Instagram Influencers in India who inspired me to start a blog !!

I am back again with the first official topic of my blog, which is Top Instagram Influencers in India who inspired me to start an independent blog. If you haven’t already checked my brief introduction and who I am, please do so.

So without any adieu, let’s start about the topic. I have mentioned in my blog that I am a very artistic person, in a true sense that I cannot be bound by any 9-5 job, even at a handsome salary. Atleast for now, I can’t!! This is because I have flair for certain things which I may never find in any desk job. I like working on my own terms, with a mix of quirky and professional elements. Though my last job was interesting and I truly enjoyed it, still I thought that there is a lot that I can do. And a few digital personalities really inspired me. It is to be noted that these are in no particular order or priority.

I don’t know where to start with when I talk about Komal Narang. She is a wonderful human being who have rised above all the negative circumstances. Rejected and dejected everytime, she has created her own road to success. She has shared her story so many times where she talked about an abusive childhood, not being an intelligent child and people taunting her every now and then because she was considered a failure but inspite of all this, she emerged victorious and created a lifestyle vlog channel. Don’t forget to check her Youtube Channel.

A highly creative girl based in Delhi. She is an inspiration for me for quite some time now. She started with a youtube channel very early and now is a great youtuber. Her content ideas for both Instagram and Youtube are commendable and very genuine. She is an example of how persistence is the key. Honestly, I can’t stop eulogising her for the work she do, so let’s cut it short and give her channel a shot !!

Well who doesn’t know her now but back in the days, I remember watching her Mumbai-Delhi Video which was just amazing and then I started following her. Her content is always superb and now she is the biggest digital celebrity in India. From making comedy content videos to discussing various abstract topics to interviewing top bollywood personalities, she has nailed it all. And who won’t be inspired by her ??

She gives major Instagram goals, her gram is to die for. She is one of the biggest influencer of India now. She started with a lifestyle blog ‘The snob journal’ , made youtube videos and now is the brands top choice for promotional purposes. Her hardwork, creativity and persistency actually made her what she is today .

Well we both have another similarity apart from our name, that is…..we both are from Delhi!! Huh!! But this is not what inspired me. Her work, her style, her blogs, her content inspired me. At a young age she managed to buy a home (with her sister), but that’s still huge!! She is a true motivation for all the girls/women out there. Check out her Instagram for fun content.

And the list is endless. There are a lot more Influencers who have left a mark on me. I would love to share more such personalities. And why only these. I am truly inspired by women and girls who are not that famous yet but are consistent in creating content and this is what keeps the spark alive. If you are loyal to your work success will chase you.

I pray to the Almighty that everyone gets what he/she deserves. So bye until next time !! Adios Amigos, Signing off !!
